Jnanpith Awards And Its Winners (1965-2017)
Jnanpith Award (also spelled as Gyanpeeth Award) is an Indian literary award presented by Bhartiya Jnanpith, a research, and literary organization, to Indian authors for their contribution to Indian literature.

It was conceptualized in 1961 and was first awarded in 1965. G Sankara Kurup was the first Jnanpith award winner. He won the prestigious award for his poem collection, Odakkuzal (The Bamboo Flute) in 1965.

As of 2015. the awardee receives a bronze replica of Hindu Goddess Saraswati and a cash prize of 11 lakhs.

The award has been conferred upon 59 authors and poets including 7 women writers. In 1976, Bengali novelist Ashapoorna Devi became the first woman to win Jnanpith Award for her Hindi novel, Pratham Prastruti (The First Promise). Amitav Ghosh is the Jnanpith Award winner for 2018. He is the first English language writer to win the Jnanpith award.

Rules and Selection Procedure
The nominations for the award are received from various critics, academicians, researchers, literates and numerous literary institutions. Recently published works are not eligible for the award. They need to be at least three-years-old. So, award review committee can judge the nomination with its overall impact.
