The Aravali Range is most prominent feature of Rajasthan. It runs across the state, dividing the state in two distinct entities, first, The Thar Desert and second, Eastern plains. The Aravali range is an eroded stub of an ancient mountain range. It is also oldest fold mountain range in India.

The Aravali range in Rajasthan is divided in three major subgroups: 1. North-Eastern Aravali, 2. Central Aravali, and 3. Southern Aravali.

North-Eastern Aravalli Region
Also known as Alwar Hills, it streches from Delhi to Alwar and Jaipur. The average elevation of this region is 300 to 670 meter. Toward north-east, it merges with Gangatic plains.

Central Aravalli Region
It includes the region of Ajmer, Tonk and Jaipur.
It is surrounded by Alwar range from north, Karauli tale-land from east, Banas-Banganga plains from south, and Sambhar basin from west.

2. Taragarh (Ajmer) - 870 M
3. Naag Pahar (Ajmer) -795 M


Southern Aravalli Region
It includes district of Sirohi, Udaipur, and portions of Pali and Dungarpur. This region has larger peak than rest of Aravali peaks.
