Agriculture in Nagaland
Following the pattern of the national economy, Nagaland is a predominantly argarian state with more 70 per cent of workforce engaged in agriculture and allied fields. The agriculture contributes to almost 30 per cent of Gross State Domestic Production and expected to be the major contributor of GSDP in next 10 years.

The main crops of Nagaland are rice, millet, maize and pulses. Coffee, cardamom and tea are some important plantation crops of Nagaland. Cash crops such as sugarcane and potato are on the rise.

Nagaland has recieved Geographical Indication Tag for Naga Tree Tomato and Naga King Chilli.

Agroclimatic Zones of Nagaland
Nagaland has four agroclimatic zones, namely,

1. Hot per-humid climate: Dimapur, Peren, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon
2. Hot moist sub-humid climate: Dimapur, Peren, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon
3. Warm humid climate: Wokha, Dimapur,  Peren, Phek, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Mon,  Longleng, Tuensang, Kohima
4. Warm per-humid climate: Dimapur, Peren, Kohima,  Phek, Wokha, Mon, Mokokchung, Kiphire, Tuensang, Longleng, Zunheboto

Agriculture Marketing
Nagaland has 19 wholesale markets and 174 primary rural markets. There are 2 cold storages in the state, one privately own with capacity of 500 MT and other community owned with capacity of 1150 MT. The Government of Nagaland has also sanctioned a food park in Dimarpur.

Biodiversity Initiatives
The Government of Nagaland has started a genepool project to conserve the local varieties of rice. The State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) has identified 867 traditional rice varieties at Mokokchung alone. These rice varieties are broadly categorised as glutinous, brown and aromatic.
